Week 1 // 3D Animation

This week we learnt from home! We spoke about what to expect for this module and the assignments that we were going to have. Henry spoke about ‘Hero’s Journey’ and used a couple of examples to help us understand it; I thought about the Hunger Games for each part of the cycle where Katniss goes from living in poverty to volunteering when Prim refuses to be called. They then meet their mentor and travle to the Capitol where they are tested and are trying to get sponsors; they then enter the arena where Katniss gets a bag full of useful equipment at the end, both her and Peeta have the idea to eat berries to kill both of them which finally leads to them beating the game which then leads into another cycle as there is serious consequences for what she done.

We done an exercise after this where we got put into groups and had 9 dice with images on them and we had to make a story out of it. My group made 3 different stories:

First story – beer, battery, welcome mat, plate, umbrella, plaster, toilet, bus, newspaper:

Umbrella is reading newspaper about power shortage in the restaurant. Their date, a battery, comes through the door to meet them over a glass of wine and a meal. They get too close and the battery zaps them. They patch themselves up in the bathroom and are really upset by it, thinking the battery hates them. Then they go to leave on the bus but it has no power and the battery shows up to lend power to the bus.

Pliers, paper, chair, phone, car, battery, umbrella, glasses, ghost

He gets a text from his wife that dinner is ready and the ghost leaves from his job to his car where the car magically stops working, making him call a mechanic who will use the pliers and a battery to fix the car. For the mechanic to see him he has to wear glasses.

Laptop, pliers, pizza, robot, ice cream, umbrella, cards, cactus, trophy robot restaurateur goes to Vegas to try to get away from the rain and get money to pursue his ice cream making dreams he uses the internet to cheat on betting and wins big but needs to escape before the mob gets him with the pliers.

After this we jumped into our classwork for blender. First we done a little introduction just to ensure we remembered everything from last semester. We had to make 3 different cubes move, each varying from just normal to squash and stretch. This is what mine looked like:

After this, our work was to try animate a heavy bowling ball falling. I used this video for reference:

I found it a little difficult just trying to get the timing right but after a little bit, I was happy with how it started to look:

Our next task was to try animate a lighter bouncy ball falling:

I found these a little difficult to do but I think they look alright for my first time!
