Week 3 // Tone and Value

In class this week, our first exercise was picking a prop from our world and using tone and value to shade it! At the start, I found this task difficult as I done line art and it made it look a little weird? But the more I kept shading and sketching I found it a little easier!  As I felt it was difficult, I decided to draw more just to get used to it and try challenge myself. So I also done leaves in a pot and a filing cabinet; I started to find it a little easier :)) I also watched videos to try understand tone a little more

Another exercise was to sketch out 3 quick environments using our thumbnails we done last week to help! One thing I realised is that for the Pirate Mice thumbnail, I shaded it the wrong way, making the objects further away look darker so this is something I fixed. For the other two environments, I decided to focus on scenes for ‘Lizard Sitcom’ as it was my favourite idea in the group challenge!

For week 3, our groups got swapped in class. Our group now consists of me, Rebecca, Rosalyn, Sam, Heather and Max! We spoke a little bit more about what each of us wanted to do for the group project in class however, in our group chat, it was hard trying to get everyone to speak and decided which idea each of us wanted to do, so I decided to choose my favourite idea and sketch more for that. My favourite choice was the Lizard Sitcom! Our task for homework was to make mood-boards of our world. For the Lizard Sitcom, I had the idea to make it like the lizard version of The Office (one of my favourite tv show, the US version of course). The more I thought about it and drew for it, I realised that I preferred drawing frogs rather than lizards because I thought it would be cuter :)) This was the mood board I came up with!

The frogs from Spirited Away were my main inspiration behind the lizards I wanted to create! I thought they looked really funny and I wanted to try exaggerate their eyes and make them look surprised. I also thought about one of my favourite games since I was a child which was Animal Crossing and decided to take a little bit of inspo on how they kind of ‘humanize’ (?) their characters. After making this mood board and doing the tasks in class, I decided to do a few quick extra sketches at home using inspiration from my mood board!
