Reflection
• What worked well? & Why?
I believe the character design section worked quite well, it helped me visualise the world and see the different roles each character could play in it. The lead up to the final animation all helped to build a base for what I needed to do and what I needed to work on a little bit more. The bouncing ball task helped immensely for the timing of the overall animation and animatic.
• What did not work well & Why?
I believe the colour theory that I did, didn’t work as well as I hoped, it just didn’t hit the mark, I believe if I spent a little more time on it I could have refined the pieces and gained more knowledge on it. I also believe that the character designs that I did on paper should have been more refined, as I kept them as sketches, I did however do two detailed colour pieces as a mix of all the character designs.
• What did I learn about creative team work?
Working with a team was something that I was weary about at the start, but it ended up being the most helpful thing for me, if I had a problem or a question they were always there to answer it and help, I have grown a friendly bond with the group and we can now work in a fluid manner, whilst knowing everyone’s workflow.
• If I were to start the module again what wold I do differently and why?
If I had to start again the main thing I would do is space out my tasks instead of rushing a lot of them, I seemed to let the work snowball and crunch through it at the end, this is never the best way to do things as I didn’t get the time I needed on the different tasks, If I had done the tasks throughout the weeks they were given, I would be less stressed and have a better outcome of work.
• What do I need to do more/less of to improve my animation practice?
I need to allocate myself more time and build up to the animation more. when doing the animation, I don’t rough it out and instead try to work a final piece from the beginning, even the animatic was quite close to the finished animation, whereas I could have spent less time on the animatic and more on the final animation. My biggest problem is time allocation and seeing how much time I should set for each task.
• What might I change? How?
I want to change the bouncing balls to be more fluid in their x axis, instead of jittering when they bounce, I will do this by looking at the graph on after effects and smoothing out the curves to allow the ball to keep the same momentum throughout the whole animation.
• What should I keep? Why?
I believe I should keep the character designs the same, as I have set my mind on their personality and their whole persona, from the way they carry themselves to the way the would talk. I also believe the overall ball bouncing animation is quite refined, so I will only be changing that slightly to allow for a more seamless and realistic form of animation.
