I also tried to model a viking helmet and longship but they did not go well, as I did not really know how to approach them. The helmet mesh was extremely messy, had non-manifold geometry that Maya’s cleanup tool could not fix and ultimately was impossible to UV unwrap. I did not know how to approach the longship in the block out stage and eventually gave up.
