I was really looking forward to this week and starting to use colour but also slightly apprehensive, as this is something my knowledge is slightly limited on. Regardless, I was excited to at least make my best attempt at using and understanding colour theory. The first part of the homework for this week was to take three screen caps from any animation of our choosing and to create a palette from them. I did my best to choose scenes that tied in with the colour schemes that was talked about in class.

I decided on scenes from Coraline, coco and adventure time. I found this exercise quite useful in helping me to understand colour schemes and why they worked well with each other. It also helped me to recognise analogous colour schemes etc. I have labelled them accordingly

The next part of our homework was to take a provided image and portray moods of our choosing through the use of colour.

Danger/anger

We all have the ability to connect our feelings with colours to a certain extent, and so I used that bare instinct in helping me to decide on how I would portray the images. Eg. Red is anger. I’m quite happy with the outcome and I feel the colours I have used successfully communicates the atmosphere I was aiming for.

 

We were also asked to further dive into our worlds in colour, I decided on creating a new larger thumbnail in a Triadic colour scheme. I used the colours blue, red and yellow to fit my new groups world of ‘1920’s supernatural’ another gangster inspired story that crosses over with a fairyland. I found it quite difficult sticking to the same 3 colours but I’m quite pleased with the end result.

 

I wanted to note the exercise in class that I found quite useful. We were asked to create 5 colour palettes based on an aspect in the world we were working on;


In reflection of this week, I really enjoyed moving out of black and white and into colour, even if it was challenging. I still feel there is a lot to learn and explore but this week has given me a ugh needed head start and I look forward to putting what I have learned to work
