For this week, I was still waiting on the hunter model being made and rigged, so to save time, and to get some more done for the group, I wanted to do something for the project that wasn’t just animate or make an asset and wanted to learn something with Unreal, so one of the animators suggested that I try and make fire particles for the game.
So I followed a tutorial for a “low poly” fire, which should hopefully fit the theme of our game.
Following the tutorial it asks me to use blender to create a small sphere which will be used as the base for our fire, applying some new materials to it to give it that glow effect, I then continued the tutorial, creating a new FX out of a fountain and removing certain aspects of it to make it less like water and more like a flame.
However I came to a point where I was using the scale mesh tool, and it somehow made the flame invisible..I hunted everywhere online for a fix, before deciding to look in the comment section, finding someone else who has encountered the issue, I quickly tested this fix out and managed to get the flame back, and continuing on with the tutorial, I didn’t run into any more issues and managed to make a fire template.
Honestly I’m quite happy with the results and will need to wait and see how the group feels about the style and how we can implement it into the game.
