This week we got an introduction to substance painter which will help us when colouring designs in blender. Our first task was to texture a hammer

It was challenging getting used to substance painter as I’m not familiar with using it.
The hammer design I based off of a prop from the show arcane adding small details that relate to the show,
Beguining the texturing was ok. I wanted a darker, metalic feel for the model sticking to the preset metal and concrete textures. I added 3D texture by including dirt and a concrete surface making it feel more used and worn.
Complications with textures
I ran into some complications when texturing my piece. The details where too obvious and didn’t fit the colouring so I learned how to decrease intensity and make it more natural.
Dirt and Blood- A used item

Adding blood splatter and dirt to the hammer was done using the painting tool and multiply overlays adding the the used element of the piece.

The logo was my personal favorite part. I chose to include a logo from Arcane to the hammer using the stencil tool which was quick and easy

The Helmet
For homework I decided to model an astronaut helmet.
My initial design had the helmets visor pulled up showing the inside of the helmet, but I decided that this wasn’t very nice to look at and the extruded inside didn’t look at all realistic and didn’t resemble a wearable helmet.

The rest of the Helmet stayed relatively the same apart from changing the visors location. I used a torus for the visor hinge and base. The main part of the helmet was created using a rotated sphere and the visor is a small section of the sphere extruded to create the visor frame.

I much preferred the final design, UV Unwrapped, then brought it to substance painter to begin texturing
I started with some basic coloring focusing on the main parts before adding detail with the paint function. I did this using black masks on specific areas

I added paint splotches using the paintbrush tool in different colours. Using the stencil tool I added details from the show “Arcane” and “Spiderverse”

To make the textures blend in more and more worn I added a dirt layer which I feel helped my design a lot!

Bringing it back into blender went a lot smoother than the hammer and I was able to get a successful render!
