This week we did more modeling including a milkshake, exploring transparent models. Vases, exploring modeling and form and finally a Zubat.
Milkshake
The milkshake model introduced me to different blender features including the transparent models and bezier curves.

Making the basic shape was easier than I thought, cutting a circle in half, extruding then separating each piece. The rim was created with the bevel tool and the bottom of the milkshake was achieved using insetting and extruding. The straw was designed with a Bezier curve and the tedious task of adding materials. I enjoyed this process and I love how my model ended up turning out!

Flower Vase
The flower vase was another task on this day. I started by sketching out my designs for the vases in my sketchbook and planning how I could recreate my designs in blender. I referenced the vases off of contemporary designs I found online. I liked the colors and the abstract shapes. I referenced these images in my initial sketches!

Sketches

Some of these designs changed when I started 3D modeling and I settled for simpler and colorful designs. I felt that the ones I sketched where too similar and I wanted variation in my final design. For the flowers I modeled them off of a tulip and loosely after a pink alstroemeria flower some of my favorites!

I used the extrude and scale tool to create the shapes and using solidify to create the rim of the vase.

I had designed 3 vases but I decided to use it as a prop in the scene!

The Zubat
For our homework we were instructed to model a Zubat Pokémon and create an animation of it flying. This was a harder model to make, the hardest part being the mouth which I found particularly challenging. Using a sphere and the extrude and scale tool making the basic peanut like shape of the body was easy but ensuring there where no triangles around the mouth took some time. I leanred how to use the knife tool especially when it came to the wings.

The wings where created using a plane and the solidify tool. I used the extrude tool to change the shapes and make the wings more organic and smoother. The mouth when I sorted the polygons was a lot more straight forward and I added a cone for teeth and modeled the ears.
Colouring was very enjoyable and I was very happy with the final result.

The Animation
I keyframed the model to fly through the air in and out of the cameras view and finally ending with a quick zoom up the ways out of frame. The wings flapping was simply a duplicated wing motion through the animation and the body movement was achieved with the rotation tool.
I wanted to add more to the animation so I modeled a Poki Ball and added it to the scene!
