Gun

I found the process of creating my gun quite challenging, due to the gun being such a rounded shape I wanted to ensure I was bevelling and smoothing enough to create this, I ran into a few issue when creating this as I found some Ngons as I was UV’ing, however creating the gun was definitely out of my comfort zone. I wanted for my major project to challenge myself and create good models, so regardless I was proud of the gun I created in the final. I also wanted to expand my skills using substance painter, I used the alpha channel in substance to create details such as the word ‘Lock’ on the gun, i also added details such as scratches and dust to represent an old gun.

Tables and Chairs

I created some tables and chair for the interior of my room, I made some sofa’s and a dinner table and desk, all created in Maya and textured in substance painter.

Kitchen Unit

The kitchen unit was another asset that I found quite challenging, as there is so many components within it, it was important that I was modelling it accurately. I had some issues when I began to UV my kitchen, just like my building I tried to create the kitchen all in one mesh. I began to separate the kitchen units, and create it all in individual parts, this helped me whenever I ran into any problems, for example; I was faced with some issues on all my cupboards, the ambient occlusion baked very badly and created shadows all over the mesh – the separated meshes allowed me to quickly fix the issue within Maya and return to substance.

Bed

I created the bed, and noticed some issues with the scaling and from my research and reference images I found a lot of bed looks like a plain mattress so I decided to re do my bed so it would look nicer in the final outcome. The final outcome of the mattress was challenging as I couldn’t find any texture that sat right on it, the method I used to achieve this look was finding the pattern on google and bringing it into photoshop. I exported the texture which I projected on to the mattress, adjusting the height map to give a bit more depth.

TV and PS4

I really enjoyed creating these assets, especially the PS4 – I gathered the details such as the logo from google and inverted the PNG on photoshop and imported this as an alpha in Substance Painter. I enjoyed this process as I loved being able to pay close attention to detail.

Building

Wired Gate

I created this wired gate using Maya, which was really high poly so I decided not to use it as it was causing a lot of running issues.

Laptop

To create the laptop, i just modelled the general shape in Maya and found a png of a keyboard on google which I imported into photoshop and inverted. Following this, I imported the png into substance as an alpha channel and projected accordingly, I adjusted the height map so it appeared the key board was sticking out of the model as oppose it looking painted on.

Clock

I used the exact same method as the laptop, with the clock.
