Launch of our 2024-25 Responsible Business and Management Student Competition

Are you an Ulster student in 2024/25 and have completed work that links to Sustainability?

If so, Submit your coursework for a chance to win across three categories

  1. Undergraduate essays and reports,
  2. Postgraduate level essays and reports
  3. Alternative Media category (all levels)

Open to both Postgraduate, UG students and PhDs

Your entry will normally be work already written and submitted as part of your normal coursework.  i.e. the competition does not require specially written essays or other artefacts. But students can also choose to develop work on a topic of their choice related to the SDGs/responsible business and management.

General Information

Overview of the competition in brief: 

  1. The competition has three categories – (1) undergraduate essays and reports, (2) postgraduate essays and reports (3) Alternative Media category (i.e. video, powerpoint, poster etc)
  2. The competition is open to a variety of management disciplines – however there needs to be a clear link to the Sustainable Development Goals and/or responsible business, management themes.   Please email if unsure!
  3. Entries should be work already written and submitted by students at Ulster University, and does not require specially written essays or other artefacts. This said, students can choose to develop work on a topic of their choice related to the SDGs/responsible business and management.
  4. Entries should be submitted to the email address on the poster along with your student number
  5. Winners will be notified before the 8th May and Prizes will be awarded during the 2025 Sustainability Conference
  6. The Ulster University winners will be submitted to the (next) National PRME UK&I Student Competition

Terms & Conditions, Practical Submission Information & Criteria

Our Criteria generally follows the National PRME UK&I Competition guidelines.  The UU winners will be submitted to the next PRME UK&I national competition

Judging Criteria

(UG, PG and Alternative Media Categories)

  1. A clear connection to (UG) and contribution to (PG) the PRME/SDG agenda
  2. For PhD level work, entrants are encouraged to provide an overall Abstract followed by an extract of their work, up to the same word limits (below)
  3. Evidence of insight, critique, originality and intellectual challenge (intellectual challenge and originality more heavily weighted at PG level)
  4. Quality of research (whether primary or secondary)
  5. Structure, logic and clarity of style
  6. Creativity and professional communication skills (alternative media category)

Format Requirements

(Undergraduate and Postgraduate Categories)

  1. A Word document of no more than 3,000 words excluding references, abstract and appendices (If the original work was longer then edited versions suited to the competition requirements are also acceptable).  
  2. Maximum file size: 1MB
  3. Double spacing in 12 point Arial font
  4. An abstract or executive summary (maximum 200 words)
  5. Details of the original topic or assignment brief to be included as appendix one (where available).
  6. Entries not meeting the format requirements will not be considered

Format Requirements (Alternative Media Category)

  1. If a mainly written item, maximum length 3,000 words
  2. If a video or audio based item, minimum length 3 minutes, maximum length 10 minutes
  3. If file size up to 1MB and specialist playback software not required, submit via email details below. If more than 1MB and/or specialist playback software is needed, email only the student details and a weblink (with password if required) to an external hosting platform of your choice e.g. Vimeo or YouTube.
