A Hat-Trick for PRME at Ulster University Business School
We are thrilled to celebrate three fantastic achievements from our colleagues at Ulster University Business School (UUBS) this month.
These milestones highlight our unwavering commitment to responsible management education and the crucial role that student voices play in shaping a sustainable future.
Our Inaugural UN Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) Report: A Milestone for Ulster University Business School
We’re delighted to lead with the news that Ulster University Business School will submit its inaugural UN SIP Report on SDG Flag Day. The Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) report is a fundamental way for PRME signatory members to share information with their stakeholders on their progress in implementing the Seven Principles. This significant milestone underscores UUBS’s deep dedication to embedding sustainability at its core.
The report itself details UUBS’s actions and outcomes across the seven principles, including our commitment to a culture of transparency, robust governance structure for sustainability, and our focus on regional economic needs. The report is a testament to the school’s mission to empower students with an entrepreneurial mindset and to be a leading engaged and entrepreneurial business school.
This achievement aligns with Ulster University’s strategic plan, ‘People, Place and Partnership: Delivering Sustainable Futures for All’. As part of this effort, UUBS has launched new programmes, such as a Sustainable Leadership short course and a new MSc in Sustainable Management. We have also recognised our efforts, ranking 2nd in the UK for educator participation in the SDG Teach-In campaign and achieving a global Top 20 position for SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) in the 2024 Impact Ratings.
A New European PRME Leader: Welcome, Sophie Scott!
Building on this success, we are delighted to announce that Sophie Scott from UUBS has been appointed as the new PRME Regional Leader for Europe. This prestigious appointment, one of only 18 worldwide, is a testament to Sophie’s personal commitment to promoting PRME and empowering the next generation of responsible leaders.
Sophie’s new role comes at a critical time when student perspectives are more vital than ever. PRME Lead, Dr Marc Duffy of Ulster University Business School said,
“We are delighted that Sophie saw the call for PRME regional leaders and took the initiative to apply. Sophie has been an integral member of the Ulster University Business School community for several years, taking on leadership roles in our active societies and collaborating with colleagues from the Business School and around the UK during our annual PRME conferences. We know she will be an excellent asset to the PRME team and look forward to getting started.”
This dedication was further highlighted in a joint paper Sophie co-authored for the PRME 2025 conference, which focused on student views on sustainable and responsible education.
For Sophie, this journey began with a sustainability module that opened her eyes to the need for a new kind of business education, one that goes beyond theory to address the real-world challenges we face. As she said, she looks forward to “putting the student voice at the forefront and helping others rethink business education as a force for sustainable impact.”
We are incredibly excited to see the impact Sophie will have in her new role.
SDG Flag Day: A Decade of Global Goals
Finally, we’re proud to join the UN Global Compact and organisations worldwide to mark SDG Flag Day on Thursday, 25 September 2025. This day marks the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030.
In 2024 we proudly flew an SDG Flag across the three Northern Irish Campuses, and we are delighted to re-join the campaign on Thursday!
The SDG Flag Day campaign began in the Netherlands in 2020 and has since grown to include hundreds of organisations, schools, and government departments. This year’s campaign, led by the UN Global Compact Network UK, also marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the United Nations Global Compact. These anniversaries offer a crucial opportunity to reflect on our progress, recognise the pivotal role of responsible business in driving sustainable development, and renew our collective commitment to a sustainable future.
We are so proud of the work being done at Ulster University Business School and look forward to seeing the continued impact of their team and students.
