In our first 3D Digital Literacy class, we were given the task of creating a basic set of chairs and a table. Initially, I found it extremely difficult to keep up with all the different shortcuts for scale and rotation, so I fell behind a little in class, however, I asked Mike for help and I was then able to catch up with the class. I feel like my table and chairs are very simplistic, but honestly I didn’t mind since it took me a long time to get comfortable with the Maya interface, and for my first attempt, I’m just glad that I was able to create ‘something’!
Ordinarily I would have wanted to spend longer on this, but we were told not to worry and that our lecturers were ‘not looking for perfection on our first try’. Rather than stools I might have added a frame to the back of the chairs and also assigned a material too.
In addition to this first task, I had also been working through Alec’s cactus tutorial, and had got as far as finishing the model itself and preparing to assign materials to each primitive;
I’ve been doing little bits of the tutorial every day, and I’ve completed 8 out of the 16 videos. However, my computer seemed to stop responding when I was assigning materials to the shape, and in my frustration, I decided to take a break from this model and focus on my classwork, so I will be revisiting it in the future, but so far, I’m quite happy with how it looks!
