Using the model of an elephant’s face provided for us in our lecture materials, this week we were introduced to retopology, which is essentially creating a new mesh on the surface of a complex model so that it can be optimised for animation.
All in all, the flow of the mesh seemed to be working okay on the area around the elephant’s eyes, however, if I were to repeat this exercise I would take care not to create any triangular polygons like the ones located at the bottom corners of the eye.
The trunk mesh was much easier to maintain a flow with, given that it is mainly comprised of a curved cylinder.
When retopologising the ear, I again ran in to the issue of triangular polygons interrupting the flow of my mesh, however, multi-cut still indicated the mesh was whole, but, again, I hope to avoid this issue next time.
