Following my animatic, I have progressed on to my first attempt at animating my scenes for our project. I have chosen to do the ‘Speakeasy Scene’ in our ‘Sugar Prohibition’ animation, which is comprised of four shots;
- The singer sways at the center of the stage
- A shot of the singer from a backstage POV
- A close-up of the singer’s face
- An over-the-shoulder shot of the detective at a table in the audience smoking a cigarette
The difficulty here is keeping the art style consistent compared to preceding shots, for example, our group has decided to use William’s character design style as it is creative yet allows accessibility for animation. As this is a different style from my own, it feels strange to gauge a character’s movement based on anatomical proportions which I am not used to, and my first attempt at the animation feels quite irregular and jumpy as a result;
After asking for guidance from my other group members and voicing my concerns to my lecturers, I have decided to re-animate these shots, but I felt that this was to be expected, as this was a rough attempt at a first pass.
