I loved this week’s lecture on colour as I have often struggled to use colour palettes that convey emotion, atmosphere and lighting, so it was very enjoyable to experiment with this concept in my classwork. Using one of my favourite value sketches from my ‘Space Olympics’ thumbnails, I created an environment using triadic colour on the app Procreate;
It was difficult in the sense that I didn’t want the darkness of the atmosphere to dominate the hues in the palette, so I used pastel tones with purples and blues to create an ethereal and mysterious atmosphere, but with some hints of yellow to connote the confidence of movement and activity in the arena.
As an additional task, we were given a blank sketch of a river with some mountains and rocks, and instructed to colour it using a palette which would convey a specific mood;
For my palette, I chose bright, natural and vivid tones to demonstrate contentment and tranquility;
As a class activity, my team and I went outside the campus for a photography challenge to identify different types of colour harmonies; complementary, analogous, and monochromatic.
