Week 03- Portfolio Feedback

In this week’s lecture we had a big feedback class based on the mock ups we had created in the last week.

Feedback

The main points I received during my first round of feedback on my website was:

  • Make title text smaller and don’t overlap text
  • Change title on the case study pages
  • Make numbers smaller in case studies
  • Space out the sections of case studies especially feedback

Changes

I think the changed version has a much better balance and is easier to read. Something I think I will change when I start the building process is the space between text or maybe decreasing all of the text a bit more.

I think the changed version is more clear about which case study you are looking at, this would be a much better experience for users who first visit the site as it avoids undue confusion.

Along with adding the title and making it vertical to make it fit in better with the other pages, I made the numbers smaller and aligned with the paragraph text which overall adds a lot more organisation to the site and makes it easier to read for the user.

In the changed image I added more spacing between all sections but with the main focus on the feedback session. One of the biggest improvements was making the number smaller and aligning it with the rest of the text. I also changed the type colour of the numbered feedback as I feel the pink fits in better with the overall design. I think allowing more space between sections and text decreases a lot of the visual noise in the before image.

What I learned from feedback and improving my design

I learned that feedback continually helps me improve on my design and my skills. This was our first official feedback of the year and it was a little bit intimidating. It was the first time I saw some of the work new students were able to produce and it made me want to improve upon my own more and really work on it.
