About Me

Hi, My names Orla McCarney and I’m studying interaction Design at Ulster University.
I chose this course because I always drawn to the more creative sides of the things. The subjects chose in school were more technology based and so for a while I really struggled with what I should do. I felt I should do computer science for the reliability with jobs but if I was honest with myself I always wanted to do something more design based. I found this course and it felt like a perfect blend of both.

I’ve always disliked the usual ice breaker questions such as ‘what are your hobbies?’ as my mind always goes blank, I never felt I did enough interesting things so I’m taking this as an opportunity to give a real, honest answer.
I enjoy watching long youtube videos on social issues, usually on human behaviour and feminism/gender issues. I usually try to think about why these things happen or how to fix them ,regardless of never taking a single philosophy or politics class in my life. I’ve also been trying to knit the same cushion cover for maybe 9 months now- finally halfway!- and over lockdown I took the opportunity to get back into traditional painting and have been doing so ever since. I’m undoubtedly unorganised with my things, even though it stresses me out and I find myself doing careless things like regularly losing my glasses and USB which had really important documents on it at the time. I have been trying to fix this though by creating a routine I can work around to avoid matters getting too much.
I hope this gives an enough insight to my personality and if you wish, you can contact with me using my email mccarney-o1@ulster.ac.uk. Thank you!
