Class:
Morning class:
During the morning class, we reviewed the module handbook, the semester schedule and what will be covered in the morning classes and the afternoon classes.
We were introduced to our first assignment: ‘Narrative Studies – Presentation’ that is needed to be completed by the 13th of February. This was a very useful section of the lecture to me as I now have a better understanding of what is required for the assignment and when it is due in.
For the assignment, we were split into teams. I was placed into Team 10 alongside Una, Neave and Lauren and we later covered the marking criteria and showed where to find the short video that we will be analysing.
We also received a short overview of assessment 2 and 3 that will be explained in more detail later.
Afternoon Class:
After lunch, we learned of ‘The Hero’s Journey’, a narrative pattern proposed by a man called Joseph Campbell. Furthermore, we were taught about ‘Narrative Armature’ and what it means. Narrative Armature is the point of the story; an example given was, King Midas. In King Midas’s story, the armature is that money isn’t everything.
Another point we covered was ‘Theme beats Logic’ this means a plot point doesn’t need to logically make complete sense as long as it thematically makes sense, for example, ‘Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark ’, Indiana shouldn’t know that you can’t look at the box but he does.

Lost and Found
Lost & Found | Oscar Shortlisted Stop-Motion Animation | Short of the Week – YouTube
For homework, we were tasked with working in our groups, analysing the short stop motion and deciding what parts of the analysis each person is going to cover.
I was put into Team 10 with Una, Lauren and Neave. Over Discord, we decided that instead of each person covering a different technique we would each analyse a minute and thirty seconds of the stop motion. We decided on the order of me, Una, Neave and Lauren.
Progress:
Final Thoughts:
I think I’m making good progress in analysing my part of the animation. I still need to write them out properly and gather more screenshots from the stop motion and add my points into the PowerPoint but I am happy with the progress that I have made thus far.
