Interview Skills
Today we learnt about interview skills. At the beginning of this class, Daniel put up a Menti link and we all typed suggestions of what we think we’d need to consider for the workplace. This exercise was quite fun, and brought us into the lecture nicely.
Daniel then ran through some things to think about and consider before, and during, an interview.
Here is a short summary of some things we learnt:
Values to Demonstrate
- Be willing to learn
- Push the boundaries
- Be a team player
- Be enthusiastic
- User-centred approach
Make any, and all experience count.
Understand the role, how you know what you know – the process involved etc.
Talk about taking a user-centred approach.
Interview Tips:
- No matter what they ask, always try to link it to one of these values
- Always answer the question
- Prepare speaking points
- Sell yourself and your strengths
- Show enthusiasm
- Bring sketchbook to back up portfolio
- End on a positive note
With the upcoming applications and interviews for placement, I thought this lecture was really well timed, and really useful. I will be looking back on these notes when preparing for upcoming interviews, as I think that what we learnt today will really help me.
