High Resolution Mock-up Crit
This week we showed the class our high resolution portfolio site mockups. From this, we received some feedback from both Kyle and our peers. I always find group critiques to be very helpful in improving my work, so I was glad to have one so soon into the project.
We uploaded the mockups onto a Miro board, and while Kyle gave us verbal feedback, the rest of the class wrote theirs on sticky notes around the image of our project.
Here are my high res mock-ups:
The Feedback
Most of the feedback from my peers was positive which was great! However a couple of people, as well as Kyle, mentioned text sizing. This feedback was to increase the text size in order to have a clearer typographical hierarchy, as well as adding margins so that the amount of words per line was smaller. Kyle said the best line length for readability is around 11 words. I will definitely take this into account when building my site on Webflow.
Kyle also mentioned having some images fill the screen from left to right, rather than be in a carousel. I also think this could look a lot cooler and cleaner, so, again, I will be taking on this feedback and implementing it into the final site. Another thing Kyle mentioned was to possibly add a colour. The black and white is nice because it helps the colour in the work to speak for itself and stand out – however, adding a colour to call-to-actions or a few titles could be a nice way to help them stand out as well.
As well as this, Kyle said that I should maybe add a call-to-action beneath my short bio at the top of the homepage. This button would direct the user straight down to my work so they don’t have to scroll to it.
All in all, this experience has been very useful, and I’m glad that I am now able to fix up the things that weren’t so great before actually starting to build the website.
