S2 WEEK 4
This week in animated narratives we went over some more animating in maya.
We started with a lecture where we went over setting Maya up for animation again, forward kinematics and inverse kinematics, blocking animation in maya with stepped preview mode, we’re looking at a few simple rigs, and looked more deeply into the graph editor in Maya, as it’s incredibly useful for animating.
We talked about timing in animation again, and how animating in 3D is similar to animating in 2D when it comes to the principles of timing, and advised not to rely on the program too much to animate for us, as Maya attempts to fill in the blanks of the animation which you haven’t done. We were old we’re the animators of our work, not the software.
We were asked to attempt a few animations exercises this week as well. One basically getting used to a basic ball rig, another one showing and explaining forward kinematic and inverse kinematic, and another one in which we attempted to animate a small curious character doing a jump.
Another presentation was assigned to us this week. Next week in our groups for our final 30 second 3D animation, we were asked to compile what we’ve created for our project so far. Concepts, story, characters, animatics, props, we’re asked to show everything.
I did a lot of work this week for the final project, creating some character concepts as well as some props, and I am undertaking the task of creating the room we will use in our final outcome – which is coincidently a tutorial I was already doing as I mentioned a few weeks ago, I will manipulate and change the room as I go through said tutorial to shape it to look like the room we want to use in our animation.
Some of the slides we’ve prepared for our presentation.
