SEMESTER 2 WEEK 1
We were introduced to our new modules we were going to be working on this semester. One being Animated Narratives, and the other being Digital Literacy. Our final outcome is going to be due for the 5th of March, and we’re going to be modelling, UV unwrapping, texturing and real time rendering one of the following:
- Windmill
- Mantel Clock
- Treasure chest & Treasure
- Sword & Shield
- Sci-Fi Door
- Old Well
- Magic Witch / Wizard Staff
The first assignment in our Animated Narratives class is a group presentation due for the 10th of Feburary where we will all analyse a short animated movie. We are to look at the Narrative structure and it’s relation to the Hero’s journey, Mise-en-scene, Cinematography, Sound, Editing and ‘Discovering Intent’ which is how the media evokes a reaction from the audience. I got assigned my group members and given the short animation ‘Lost & Found’ to analyse.
I started work on this presentation by researching various aspects of the short animation I noticed that I’d be able to talk about in my presentation. I organised with my group members what aspects and times of the animation we would be focusing on, as well as setting up a google doc for all of us to take notes and a google slide for us to collaborate on and make our presentation — and we all got to it.
In my other class, 3D Digital Literacy — we started to delve into maya, as 3D is what we’re focusing on this semester and what our final outcome will be. We started off very simply by first being assigned to model a vase:
Doing this vase I initially got confused with the different camera views from all the different angles and perspectives, and struggled to orient myself in the program and set up my reference images and polygon primitive as I got confused easily while I was learning where everything was.
It was very intricate and I was not prepared for how many verticies and faces such a simple object could have and what effort had to go into making the most simple of objects.
I eventually got the hang of it and got it done and am very happy with this first attempt, the program itself has so many options of things I could do that it was hard to get myself situated, but with the help of the tutorial and a little elbow-grease I created a vase that I think is not bad for a first attept at maya!
