WEEK 13
This week I put all my time and energy into completing my animation, which pretty much just consisted of lining, colouring and editing together my final scene with the other two scenes.
Nothing of particular merit happened for the lining to stick out, the only thing that’d i’d comment on is that the lining of Booyahs legs as he got dragged around was quite tedious as I had to re-do the lines quite a few times because my hand would falter and warp the lines of the legs, it was still partly tedious even after I started using my brush tool with a decently large stabilizer on it.
Colouring this scene took a surprisingly longer amount of time than I thought it would’ve. I probably should have realised that since I was animating 3 seperate characters all simultaniously moving on screen for some parts of it, but it shocked me how long it actually took. I think I spent upwards of around 9 hours getting through the entirety of the colouring for just A13X by herself. I learnt a lot doing this scene. I also decided to make a different background for this scene as I thought the continuity of my animation would be strange if in one scene A13X and Booyah were facing backwards to the viewer and in the next scene facing them, with no background change in-between.
EVALUATION…
I learnt SO much this semester about animation and I think this small scene is a good collective showcase of me putting what I’ve learnt over this semester to good use. I used arcs and timing and different forms and shapes and I’m aware of the fact I did those! I also worked in groups with a large range of people I didn’t know when I hadn’t really done any group work at all before, and I took it in my stride and had fun with it. I’ve went from at the start of this year only having made a ball bounce a few times to fully realised characters doing actions on screen. Of course I had obstacles to overcome over the semester — having to climb over the proverbial mountain to learn multiple new softwares and learn how to use them effectively at that. I’ve had time issues and software issues to deal with. One that sticks out to me is whenever I had to spend 2 hours looking for a download to the file ffmpeg, which is the file needed so it’s possible to render and export animations on Krita. I couldn’t find it anywhere and it was a problem that really stressed me out until I eventually found the file and fixed it. I also had to deal with the issue that I would visit my parent’s over breaks and want to do the work needed of me, but I had my PC over in my student accomodation and couldn’t bring it back and forth 2 hours up the road easily. This meant I wouldn’t be able to work while I was visiting at home, and would instead have to crunch to get work done in the few days I had when I returned before classes started again, this was issue over the Halloween break. I overcame all the issues and learning curves I encountered over this semester, and made an animation that I do see the flaws and shortcomings in — but know how to fix in my future works. I also see that I made an animation that was a pretty good first attempt for someone who’s still relatively new to animation at all.
