WEEK 2
In week 2 we went over composition and perspective, and how they can be used to frame objects, scenes and environments, and even create specific moods.
We were also sorted into groups for the Create a World project
After the lecture we were tasked with finding the perspective lines in 6 images – 3 in one-point perspective, 3 in 2-point perspective. The shows I used for mine are Avatar, the last Airbender. Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Hilda, and The Owl House. I found 2-point perspective to be more challenging, since one-point perspective tends to be very obvious to see, but I figured it out with enough work! I managed to get most of them done pretty accurately, but I sometimes added un-necessary lines thinking they should’ve been there (oops!) Perspective is very challenging for me, but I have a far better understanding of it now.
We were also taught how scenes are framed, going over techniques such as the rule of thirds, and the golden ratio – These were very interesting to see examples of, because it shows just how important they are to create visually appealing scenes. With this new information I would be able to create better work in the next task.
The next task we were given was to create 12 composition thumbnails of the environment we envision for our Create a World project, using a simple range of colour. To create these I kept in mind the framing techniques, and let my imagination run wild.
Figuring out how to show depth in these thumbnails was a little confusing for me, and I at times put the tones in places where they shouldn’t have been so dark/light, but overall I found it very interesting and fun to do, and I have a lot more experience in creating environments and framing them now!
We were also asked to create basic character concepts and shapes for our create a world, I had a LOT of fun with this because character and creature concepts is something im very interested in.
