I really enjoyed the first assignment, despite how overwhelming it was to adapt to all of the intricacies and jargon of 3D modelling. I feel like I learned a huge amount in a short period of time, going from being unable to model a simple table on the first day to modelling an entire sword from scratch just a month later. I’m proud of the progress I was able to make with the resources provided; having access to the tutorial videos helped my learning process a lot. I struggled the most with figuring out materials and UV unwrapping, but those were also some of my favourite things to do, as the euphoria from finally figuring them out made the turmoil worth it and drove me to keep practicing more so I could understand how they worked properly.
I made a lot of mistakes along the way and despaired many times, but I had a lot of fun and I feel like weeks 4 and 5 especially pushed me to think of how to make models myself rather than just following a tutorial, which I’m excited to do more of in the future.
