Stencil Project Outcome
This brief was set by Ruth during week one of the Graphic Design rotation which instructed the class to create a stencil mimicking the appearance of a typeface found in our environment, in my case, the Bushmill’s Whiskey logo.
In response to this brief, I experimented with a range of techniques such as overlaying of colour, comparing the outcome of both the positive and negative aspects of my stencil, dabbing with sponges and splattering paint. I also explored different arrangements of colour such as the pairing and overlapping of red & blue to create a cinematic optical effect, followed by monochromatic pieces. A further aspect which I experimented with was my choice of mediums, I explored through both acrylic paint and ink. In future, I would be eager to involve spray paints as I feel this would create some very beautiful outcomes and allow for more freedom of experimentation but unfortunately, I do not have this medium at my disposal for the time being.
In the aftermath of this project I have concluded that the most attractive and visually appealing outcomes, at least in my own opinion, are the monochromatic experiments I created. I feel that the simplicity is what makes them stand out.
