Week 3 – 3D Modelling Continued

For week 3 we modelled a milkshake which was pretty simple as it there was a step-by-step tutorial I could follow. The new functions I leant from this were transparent materials and proportional editing.
Our second in-class workshop activity was modelling a vase and a flower (a tutorial was also provided for this). Here we learnt about proportional editing in depth, Bezier curves and the knife tool. I ended up finishing mine early and decided to add extra shasta daises using the new techniques I learnt. I used the knife tool to cut out the petals on a flat plane and moulded the form with proportional editing. The rest was similar to the original purple flower.
The homework this week was modelling and animating a Zubat from Pokémon! Like the others there were tutorials to follow so it wasn’t that too much trouble. I learnt a couple new things from this, there were a couple sticking out bits with its wings and ears which the smooth tool really helped to fix. It also took a while messing around with the topology (merging vertices at the centre)  to make sure it was mostly quads and looked clean. Cleaning up the topology for the wings was kind of tricky because the shape was weird, I had to do two attempts.

Final Animation

There were some render issues with this but I shortly figured out the clipping end was set too low which caused the animation to not properly load in. I also learnt about cyclic animation while doing this!

Overall, this week was pretty interesting and helpful! I liked modelling the extra flowers especially :]
