Week 5: Group 4 Character Designs

As a group we agreed on each member creating a few different character designs to fit our vision, mine revolved particularly around a monkey, rabbit, snake hybrid creature and other secondary designs such as an ocelot creature, bioluminescent crocodiles and more notably a gliding dragon.

Although these character designs were quick, I tried to create a creature with simple shapes and an interesting silhouette. Around each sketch there are notes to remember which, if these designs were to be chosen, would help any artist with elements. Although I like all of my designs, I feel as though I should have developed design 1 more, possibly draw them in different positions to show how they behave, possibly a turnaround to show the personality, and all the characters view points.

This was a simple sketch of some of my character designs, in their mutated jungle habitat, with a giant millipede like creature that I imagined to tear down the foliage of the jungle with ease. I did not explore different or more interesting plant life, which I regret now as the jungle appears normal, not at all reflecting the whimsical and alien feel I had envisioned for the world.

Design 2, the dragon, though interesting does not fit well into the world of hybrid animals kept in labs, instead it seems like more of a predator, a villain, rather than a poor animal. I took inspiration from the design of the anteater-like dragon creature from ‘Fantastic Planet’, a film which greatly inspires me;
