IxD 103 Brand Guidelines

This week we had a short lecture on brand guidelines before our brands critiques. So, what are brand guidelines? Brand guidelines are simply an instruction manual and rule book on how to communicate your brand. They lay out all the visual details, as well as important notes about the company’s voice, tone, and messaging. We then looked at other companies brand guidelines such as NASA’s brand guideline

Daniel then showed us what we should have within our own Brand Guidelines, he gave us a list of stuff to include when we came to making our own.

This included stuff like

  • Tone of voice
  • Colour
  • Logo
  • Icons
  • Illustration
  • Motion
  • Photography
  • Type
  • Layout

I learnt that having brand guidelines is a good way to keep your brand on track it is important not to keep changing guidelines or your brands values, as this can confuse your customers and in turn create a distrust between you and them.
