Project Reflection

Having the opportunity to collaborate with Lauren and Dylan on this project was a great experience for me. It was a bit tough at first to try and combine all of our ideas into one, and to come to an agreement on what we were going to do while making sure all of us had our input for ideas, and making sure we were heard in the final product.

We kept in touch throughout the entire work process, from pre-production to post-production, informing each other as to what we were having problems with and when each stage was being developed to being finished. We were able to compromise with the tasks that needed to be done as soon as possible and those that could be left for the later stages of the project. As the project came to an end we had to start cutting scenes because we didn’t have enough time to finish the rest of the animations and backgrounds. However, taking into account that many of the scenes had to be cut, we still managed to accomplish some good footage within the time frame that we had.

Throughout this project, I have developed a love for environmental art over animation. Watching the scene develop from the beginning to the end of the animation is something I find very captivating and it takes a great deal of time to model all of the assets and then place them into the scene in accordance with the fact that every asset needs to be placed in a specific area in order to ensure that within the camera view, it fits into the style and composition of the scene. whilst making sure that within the camera view there isn’t any spots that don’t have assets along with hiding parts of the assets that don’t look right within the scene. However event though i enjoyed environmental art more than the rest i still love to do animation and character designs as its something i still want to work on the future since i would like to be an all rounder.

During the project i mainly found managing my time to be the hardest as time management has been something iv been working on for years. So i found it rather hard to distribute time between what should be worked on first rather than later. Between animating the character and camera movements to then developing each scene that then had to be merge with Laurens 2d animation plus remembering to update my blog as i go along with the project develop. Whilst also being on a 0hr contract at work some weeks being as low as 12hrs and max shifts being 32hrs and trying to get shifts booked of for self study was no easy task along with  long shifts would then take a toll on my mental state and create a blockage leading me to to fall behind in some stages . Although i still managed to get the main scenes completed in time but if i hadn’t had been working as much i would’ve gotten a lot more of the scenes complete along with more animations.

The later stages of production i found rather difficult at times as i had to use after effects and time was running out so during this stage i panicked quite a lot with the stress with the project and working at the same time . After effects isn’t my cup of tea yet I’m making progress with learning to use it better.

in the end i still have a lot to work on however even if the progress is little ,its still something that will then eventually be easy to remember as it was frequently practiced.
