Week 6 – Reflection

Entering this course, I had no experience with 3D. These first few weeks have been tough but I am starting to understand things. I started to pick up the modelling aspects quickly and learnt the shortcuts. The zubat assignment was when I started to feel confident in the modelling as I had a quicker workflow than the previous tie fighter assignment. The introduction of UVs was initially a bit confusing, but I started to get my head around it. During these UV assignments, I started having a lot more problems. This made me realise the importance of UV maps in a 3D model. The one main problem was in the helmet assignment as I had to restart the assignment from the beginning as I had made a too complex model for my skills which ended up having a lot of issues in the geometry. I learnt to NOT overuse subsurface division in models to smooth them out. Substance painter was very fun to learn and use as there is much to explore in it. My favourite task was the sword task as we were given a lot of creative freedom. I learnt a lot and feel my skills have improved.
