Week 3 – Zubat

Week 3 is where we were introduced to more tools in the edit mode of blender. The assignment this week was to create a zubat model. This was extremely fun to me since Pokemon is one of my favourite franchises.

Initially the model was going well for me. The topology was working out and we were taught how to use the knife tool to correct the topology. It was after this where I hit a problem. For some reason, my mirror modifier didn’t seem to be working correctly and wouldn’t mirror my model properly. This caused me to start over from the beginning. This time, with a better mesh, the mirror modifier worked and I was able to continue modelling.

I decided to colour my zubat using the Pokemon’s ‘shiny form’ – a rare form of the Pokemon with a different colour palette. The colouring on this task was fun and I feel like this assignment really built my confidence in blender as I was starting to learn shortcuts and do things much quicker.

Eventually, I got to animating the zubat, which I found very simple and completed quite quickly.
