IXD302: Invoice

As part of our proposal project, we were asked to create an example invoice. I started off by doing some research, so I know what to include.

What is an invoice?

An invoice is a document used to record a transaction, usually between a business and a client. This tells the client how much they owe. They then must provide payment within the timeframe given.

Purpose

Businesses can use invoices to protect themselves and track how much money they are owed. They can track cash flow, when payments are made, how much they charge, and what money is owed to them.

What does it include?

  • Company name, address, and contact information
  • Client name, address, and contact information
  • Invoice number
  • Due date
  • Service/good provided
  • Description
  • Hours spent
  • Rates
  • Payment terms
  • Amount owed

This example invoice includes the payment the Hillstreet team must make to my company. It covers the first month of work on their website and brand. In the proposal, I talked about a payment schedule that included a deposit they pay before work begins. Therefore, it has been taken away from the final price.

I enjoyed doing this task as I learned a lot about invoices that I didn’t know before. It also allowed me to look into the business side of design which was very interesting.
