This week’s in-class workshop focuses on baking normal maps and adding detail using the sculpting tools that we have gotten a grip on in the last few weeks to a premade elephant head model given to us by Mike.

I tried to make my elephant look a bit old and battered, so I used the crease tool to try and add wrinkles, but that wasn’t really giving me the results I wanted, so I started to use the draw sharp tool to get better wrinkle lines. Another one of the sculpting tools I used quite a bit was the elastic deformer to create baggy cheeks.

I was also able to get feedback on my new design for my headless horseman and was given some feedback. During the modelling process, I am going to add more detail to the clothes because my design is a bit bare. I’ve begun blocking out my model again using the low poly method taught to us last week, incorporating proportional editing as well, which is going well, and also using what we have learned about topology to try making a low poly model with good topology. I hope to have a full low poly character modelled for our next lecture, and from there, using the sculpting methods we were taught earlier in this module to add detail to the face and clothes, such as creases and smile lines.

Here is my new design for my model:
