This week focused on animatics: how to create and compose an animatic for our short.
I did some additional research on Studio Binder to see what animatics should look like and how detailed they should be, and my general consensus from that was that animatics should be detailed but not too detailed, which I took to mean enough detail to tell what’s going on but not enough to the point where it could be a fully fledged animation. I looked at the animatic for ‘Kubo and the two strings’ to get a better idea of what mine should look like.
I did my part of the animatic in toonsquid, but it didn’t give me the desired effects and looks quite choppy, but I believe that was because I didn’t draw my props properly. For example, had each of his arms been a separate prop while he was working, I would have had a much easier time tweening to get the movements I had wanted.
Here is my section of the animatic to show what I mean better.
So what I want to do for next week is take the formative feedback given to me by the lecturer, such as tidying up the composition in the first shot and focusing on better movement, so that way the animatic conveys the movements I want to achieve in my animation more effectively.
