Module intro and Blender intro

We learned how to use Blender and were given an introduction to the module handbook during our first official week of the course.

Our class task focused on how to make a table and chairs in Blender to give us a taste for the software and to introduce us to the basics of Blender, such as extruding, scaling, rotating, moving, and colouring (changing the material). I struggled to make the table and chairs, but I was able to do it in the end with some help from the lecturers. I, however, forgot to save the file, so I can’t put the render in this post.

For our assignment this week, we had to take what we learned from our workshop and use it to model and animate a snowman. As well as new techniques we were taught during the lecture, such as joining and parenting objects so they move together in a wave-like motion, we could animation the snowman in a fluid way.

I also had to look up certain shortcuts like ‘s’ for scale and ‘r’ for rotate, as well as how to actually render my animation because I wanted to render it as a video and not as an image sequence.

I really struggled with this assignment as I had no past experience with Blender, and it took me a week and a half to finish the assignment. I also had to get help from one of my classmates and my lecturer, but I’m happy with the end result.
