IXD303 Healthcare Project : Week 2 Research

This week I continued with the research I had started doing last week. I also continued communicating with my research group and considered the research they did of the other research group as I started to more fully consider ideas for a product to take to week 3.

We were given the task of thinking of ideas this week for a product so myself and my group have organised to meet after Friday’s lecture to discuss our ideas and see if we can offer each other any thoughts and advice.

Design For Healthcare

First this week I looked at some of the resources we were directed towards on designing for healthcare, as well as finding some on my own. These once again helped give me a better insight to the design lanscape of the healthcare industry as well as what I should consider from a ux perspective.

Ages 13-25

I then really just continued to look through and add for resources to my miro board. Same as last week except I tried this week to take a more specific look and some of the things that stuck out last week like sleep, exercise, diet, stress etc. And I also tried to look a bit more at statistic and studies whereas last week I was more focused on looking at health blogs and articles.

You can check out my miro board here.

Other Age Groups

So once I felt like I had done decent amount of research on my chosen age range, I reported back to the group as did the others, on discord. I had spent a lot of time looking at young people and had come up with a few ideas but I still had to look at the other age groups as well to see if I would find some better ideas with them, otherwise if I just stuck with young people, there wouldn’t have been much point in working as a group on this.

So I looked around at all the research everyone else did on their respective age groups and although I was impressed at all the work everyone did, I didn’t really come up with any great ideas or ideas I liked anywhere near as much as the one I had about making a product that targets mental health without directly targeting mental health. So I decided to stick with young people, but it was still good to look at what everyone else did.

Thoughts

So After my research this week I’ve gotten a lot more settled on the idea of making on app for young adults, college students in particular for staying healthy even in times of great stress as often comes with the college experience with all the deadlines and exams and such. So with that I’m going to focus my research now I think on that user base and also try to focus on not art college students because we’re not in the majority and we don’t have exams so we probably have a lot easier time of it than the likes of say, engineering and med students etc. So yeah that’s the plan for next week.
