Looking at the model I have created over the past number of weeks, I am happy to see a piece of work which reflects the progress I have made from having no experience with 3D modelling to making a sci-fi radio by watching online tutorials and learning in class. I enjoyed playing around with different polygons, putting them together and changing them to create unique forms. Experimenting with the different tools and settings that Maya offers to create objects like cables and glass for my final model was fascinating. UV mapping was a challenge, however with the help of online tutorials I was able to get comfortable with cutting them and lining them up so that the texture wraps around the object neatly. This area of my work still has lots of room for improvement as I noticed an issue where the texture has stretched on my final model, but I am confident that with more practice this can be resolved. My favourite area of this assignment was using Substance Painter to create textures and bringing everything together using Sketchfab – I found it very satisfying to see the model I had been working on come to life after adding colours, effects and changing the setting and lighting.
