Finishing the character – Textures and posing
My character modelling went surprisingly smoothly, as such, when it came to UV unwrapping my character in preparation for adding the textures, marking the seams was super satisfying and was actually my favourite part of the entire thing. I hope it was thanks to my topology. I ran into a few issues including discovering I had 5 and 6 sided shapes as well as triangles of course. However I was able to work them out and proceed to texturing.
In Substance 3D I quickly picked up the process of exporting my UV as an fbx, testing different textures, adding and using a black mask for parts like the eye of my character, exporting those textures out and back into Blender and finally connecting it all in the 3D Shader in Blender. Also connecting it all to the right parts came pretty easily, I also learned how to split the screen horizontally and vertically to facilitate this, that’s gonna be useful.
Finally it was time to pose and upload. Learning the armature nearly made me perish, whilst extruding and placing the joints went fine, symmetrizing it was a different story. I figured it out eventually in one of my greatest clutches of all time and proceeded to pose my character.
(Keep in mind these screenshots are from after it was all over so they textures are just pink. I still don’t really know why)
Anyway after that I rushed to upload to sketchfab because I just wanted to be finished. This was also my first ever time seeing Sketchfab and I guess it’s pretty cool? Don’t really know yet but what I can tell you is that I hated having to match up my textures properties to the version in Sketchfab. I pushed through though. Here he is ;
