On our second week of this group assignment we each focused on more concepts as our ideas were beginning to develop. We researched a lot of temple imagery online and from within films for ideas and aesthetics. One location we looked at was Men-an-tol which is located in Cornwall, UK. This location features interesting stone and pillar constructions which we want to implement within our environment and use as inspiration.
We also looked at the environments from the Disney film ‘Brave’. This film was set in Scotland and featured amazing stone structures and arrangements that we all took a lot of inspiration from. The films depicts stones similar to Stonehenge and has all sorts of stone placements and carvings.
I love the different shapes of the rocks and how they stand and lean on each other for the support. The aspect of fog in these scenes is also something we want to bring into our environment. Our environment features a lot of background land which could be quite time consuming to populate with assets, but fog would help set an atmosphere around our ruined temple.
I created a couple of concepts with the new fleshed out ideas we had. I added a portal aspect and the broken walls around it. I wanted to include the stone pillars with the different Celtic carvings on them and some broken archways which we have talked about. After this we each went on May to create our blockouts of the environment. We all still had some sort of individual idea of the layout of the environment so we did our blockouts and then compared them with each other. We were in agreement mostly with the assets but each had different ways of laying out these assets.
