For this week our group agreed upon having more coloured concepts to share with each other. I had done more concepts of the swordfish and the shark with added colour. I made an adjustment with the swordfish, instead of the arms, I added just the fins to help keep it simple for modelling when that time comes. I feel like if the swordfish had arms, it would take more time to model and perhaps be difficult too.
For our concepts we have agreed upon doing our characters and environment in a more traditional, old fashioned style similar to the old Looney Tunes shows or the cuphead style. With this in mind I tried to create a background with shading in the ocean and the coral plants. At the minute the background isn’t finished and its more of a work in progress, but with the background, instead of having solid colours for the assets, I’ve tried using the opacity on my colours to create shadows and show the true depth of the water. I have shown this by making the water a darker blue as its deeper, than the lighter blue at the surface. I plan to hopefully make more detailed environment concepts. In my character concepts for the swordfish I have shown how I have ditched the human arm look and opted for the natural fin look for the swordfish, hopefully making the future modelling easier and less time consuming. It also will help when it comes to rigging the characters. An arm would be more harder to rig than a fin.
In class we also started some tutorials in rigging. Mike had created folders for us to open in Maya. we watched Mike as he went through the basics of building joints for rigging. Then he showed us how to connect all the joints into a skeleton basically, using constraints too. I found this quite difficult and hard to replicate at times. I believe that If I watch over Mike’s tutorials for this, then I can hopefully wrap my head around it better.
