In the first week of animated narratives, we went over some power points and read the module into to understand fully what the module represents and what it means. We were then all placed into groups to work on analysing separate short animations. This would be for our first assignment of the module for this semester, Narrative studies presentation. The goal to is to analyse these animated shorts, taking various aspects into consideration. This includes; Narrative structure and relation to hero’s journey, Mise-en-scene, Cinematography, Sound, editing and Discovering intent. The video my group was assigned to is called “Happy Unhappy”.

The aim is for each of us to pick a topic, then analyse the film and highlight how the particular topic is used and portrayed. Then we are going to record each other individually and edit it all together into a presentation, accompanied with slides.

Later in the afternoon, while still in our groups, we played with story dice. We rolled dice, which had various different scenarios/characters pictured on the dice face. Each time we rolled all the dice, we took each picture the dice landed on and turned it into a story with the intent of figuring out the hero’s journey within that story. I found this tricky at times because of the random scenarios we came up with but it was great for team building and engaging with each other. This is very important as we all need to work together on this presentation assignment.
