For week 3 Tone and value, we each had to create six more thumbnail studies based on our worlds. These new thumbnails could be developments from our previous twelve studies, or brand new ones, if we were put into  different groups.  When creating these six new studies, It was important to implement tone and value into our work. So I wanted to add shading, the show the 3D aspects of the buildings and props throughout.  This could also be done in 2 tone studies, crosshatching and atmospheric perspective. I tried to implement all these within my thumbnails.

These are the six thumbnail studies I designed for this week. I have done crosshatch, two tone and atmospheric perspective in them. I used the gradient tool on Illustrator to help with adding shading to the water and some buildings or window reflections.  From here I then chose to do one thumbnail in an a4 study, with more detail applied. I chose to do the second one, with the pier, city, crane and background mountains. I chose this because of the depth it has and the potential for showing the atmospheric perspective and the tonal ranges in the buildings and mountains.

A lot of reference images for these thumbnail studies are the same as previous week, as the majority of these thumbnails are developments of the previous thumbnails. The last thumbnail however which features the table with all the old fashioned sweets was a new idea. This is meant to represent an evidence table with all the illegal confectionery. For this thumbnail I researched old sweet wrapper designs, particularly the old cadbury chocolate wrappers.

Below is the work in progress for my full study of the thumbnail

Updated*

Below is the fully finished a4 thumbnail study. I added more tonal range on the background mountains and buildings to really add more depth the the scene.  I used the gradient tool on the water and the buildings to show the light reflection and to also add more depth the these assets.
