End Of Year Show
The presentation of my animation is extremely important as it creates a visual for the guests to understand the theme of my project that I have been working on for this past year. I have had many ideas as to how I could display my work and other assets that I could collect however I believed with the style of my animation simplicity is best. The things I have purchased for my display is acrylic stands of my characters cut out, A classic red and white white tartan picnic blanket as although this does not occur in my animation it is another symbol of childhood for me going to the park and having a picnic therefore lining with my theme. I have also compiled an art book which I thoroughly enjoyed as throughout I very much kept in tune with books from my childhood meaning that when I could compare my artwork I also had a children’s book that I was very proud of with artwork that I enjoyed making and take pride in.
I have created stickers also as a as a kid stickers were so exciting and were a novelty to receive therefore I have made three different sticker designs of Rex and Rex with the boy together. I did play with the idea of getting a kids dinosaur onesie as they are quite popular and definitely would have been able to have purchased however since my animation is to do with childhood imagination not everything needs to be materialized as the great thing about imagination is you do not need to see it to believe it therefor keeping the magic alive.
Poster
The first thing I worked on is my poster as it is the statement piece which would bring my display together. Due to my original inspiration of my animation being a children’s book brought to life I really made a point to base my poster off of old fashioned children’s book designs..
Although these references where very useful one thing I did struggle with is the size. Due to this being the biggest poster I have ever designed I really had to ensure I found a balance between a storybook and a promotional poster. I endeavored to correct this by adding small details such as the page turning with the feathers behind as it entices the viewer to find out why they are there. I also made big letter balloons to add more fun and color to the poster, I had also toyed with some other ideas such as;
- collage of the children doing fun things together with a much more sketched style
- the boys looking up at clouds spelling Rex
- cover of the boys scrapbook that is featured in the end
Another thing I added was the quote from the poem at the bottom which was great for promotion as it builds suspense and curiosity to watch the film.
Asset Creation
I thoroughly enjoyed preparing for my display as bringing this project I had spent the last year to life was extremely rewarding. Due to character design being my major focus I really wanted to bring them to life, I did this by getting custom made vinyl characters of both my characters to have placed on my table.
Stickers
To keep in line with the intended audience I got custom made stickers with these designs;
I was very happy with the result from these as they encapsulate perfectly the fun charismatic energy in the film. I preferred more to be made of Rex as he is the main focus of the film and i believe this character would resonate more with the children viewers. My only issue i found with these was the expense as when ordering them there was a miscommunication of the quantity of stickers did not meet my expectation and there was only 4 of each stickers when I believed there would be 10 each in turn meaning there is not as many on display as intended and the cost was much to high however for the open night I will have more prepared for people walking through to take.
Artbook
The main asset to my display I wanted from the beginning was a book as it meant I could have an illustrated book which is something I’ve always wanted to create. This also perfectly aligned with the theme of my animated short film, again an issue with my book is the printing cut off sections my illustrations which is something I have learned with this process. However, in the end I am very happy overall with the turn out of my book. I have placed it on my final display however the company I used provided me with a digital link;

Additional Decorations
To further materialize the aspects of my short film I purchase a range of items such as, sweet jars filled with sweets as similar to my animated ones that I could find, miniature wooden picnic table with umbrella, custom made crochet dinosaur to match Rex in the animation. I particular liked having the crochet dinosaur as it gives the hint that maybe Rex was a toy brought to life which many kids imagine when they are playing.
Prints
Whilst setting up my display I couldn’t help but notice the monitors really took away the look off the overall display therefor i printed the pictures that feature in the scrapbook and strung them along the monitors.
CV
when creating my CV I really tailored to the role I want in the industry which is 2D animation and character design.
What I really liked is the color scheme as its a balance of professional CV and one that displays me as a creative artistic individual. One thing I fear lacked was a link to a personal website or social media which I have not got professionally. I also will have this out on the table which is especially useful for viewers to learn a bit more about me and to create contacts for potential future work.
Business Cards
I have also made a business card design as it is a great way to network yourself and for employers to take easily to remember my work and in turn having my contact details for future work or opportunities. To be honest with these designs i struggled the most as font is something I struggle with keeping a professional sleek look with enough personal touch and creativity.
Interactive
My final idea for my display was to have crayons and drawing paper with a chalkboard inviting viewers to draw their own imaginary friend and then clip it on to string I have placed over the front of the table so the display just continuously gets more full with a lovely personal touch.
In the end I am very happy with the development of my work throughout this module and I believe through my display I have not only been able to portray my skills gained but also my creativity and encapsulated all that my short film stands for. In future I plan on working more on my social media presence to reach other new animators in my position and reach industries as social media is a powerful tool at my disposal
