Animatic Prep

I coloured and lined my turnarounds for Aqua, I’m the only one who really needs them but they were super useful to keep everything consistent when I began sketching out my storyboards a little cleaner for the animatic.

A piece of advice I recieved during class was to help the readability of my scenes by having an over the shoulder shot of Alex or Aqua, and to make sure both characters stayed relatively on the same sides of the screen throughout the animation. This also helped line me and Joseph’s sections up!
Originally I was going for a first person POV from each of the characters and believed that I might make the screen a little too cramped if I added over the shoulders in, but I gave it a shot to see how it’d turn out and it looks much better! I also spaced the two characters out more to have their own halves of the screen and it really helped the readability of the scenes too.

Secondary Actions

Next, I really wanted to show some secondary action, in my finished animation this would probably be the way the wind blows her cape and hair, which I tried to show with a few extra drawings. However, I also realised that if it is so windy here, the clouds would be racing by pretty fast, and it’d be an easy way to show just how strong the winds are.

I made a really long drawing of clouds and used a classic motion tween to scroll it across the screen for this effect.

Animatic!

Next began the editting process! It wasn’t too difficult putting it together, and most of it lined up perfectly with the music already! However, I had to cut and trim some of the music down from the middle sections as they went on far too long and we wanted the scene at the end to have a big finish.

This was easily the most tricky part as I had to make sure it didn’t sound too out of place or abrupt, I think my final result could be better if I knew more about audio editing, but I think I pulled it off rather well!

Above you can see some of the audio crossfades and splits, as well as a section in yellow I clipped out.

And finally, we had our finished animatic that you can watch below! It’s a shame it isn’t centered like the other posts, the formatting was being mean to me hehe
