For my cover letter, I found a job listing from a small indie game studio known as ‘Land & Sea Games’, which advertised multiple roles including a remote ‘2D/3D Art Generalist‘. When I read through the listing, and researched into the studio’s current project that is quoted to be an accessible, coming-of-age folktale set against an ancient pastoral landscape., I felt compelled and inspired to take the plunge and write my cover letter inspired by this listing. This was because I have a particular love for coming-of-age stories, and the concept of presenting it like a folktale with an emphasis on countryside landscapes captures my imagination in a way that which I’d love to help further the development of this premise with my own skills and ambitions.

With this real job listing as my basis, I took a lot of time to address many notes and requirements with a strong specificity that I was struggling to achieve before finding the right listing. I did my best to flesh out my previous experiences with collaborating on a large-scale online project, which immediately would emphasise my abilities to communicate through remote means and show my understanding of teamwork along with a drive to always improve my skills.

I also described my tenacity to create artwork with whatever tools and programs I could get my hands on, which would display a level of dedication to my craft and creativity in making what I wanted with very few self-imposed limitations. Along with my Generalist experience of researching and creating work for other parts of the production pipeline, which allows me to better understand my part within said pipeline for a project, I expressed my passion for their latest project and why I would love to work on it.
