This time, I was focused on making the animatic based on the storyboard for the Bioluminescent world animation.
I wanted to figure out how long my shot was going to be, the pacing of each section, and how the background and foreground elements were going to move. I was also testing out how I was going to draw Alex’s character design in my style, since they originally created the character of Bauvy.
I was given a lot of good advice when it was presented to the class and tutors. I wanted the camera to continue to move after Bauvy gets stuck in the mud to imply that he was being left behind by it, but I was advised that stooping the camera when he gets stuck would emphasise the moment more, so I have decided to change that in the final animation.
I also worked on developing the background for the animation, which is of a purple swamp with glowing willow trees. As a group, we planned to have the the shots go in order from blue and transition to red by the last shot, with the red symbolising the villain character and their dangerous intentions.
When I decided to use willow trees, I figured I could use the long leaves in the foreground as the transition at the end of the shot. I used the animatic background and colour scaled it to get a rough idea of the colour palette, and then referenced that as I made the updated background.
