This week, we started learning about the principles of animation, that we will then use for our world group project.
We were tasked with animating bouncing balls and emphasising the weight of each ball with timing and spacing. I chose to do an exercise ball, a tennis ball and a bowling ball as my examples.
Animation 1 – Exercise Ball
Through this first animation, I was able to tangibly understand how timing and spacing of frames affects the movement of the ball and conveys the slowing momentum of it. I wanted to do an exercise ball first because it realistically squashes and stretches, which I felt would be easier for me to convey through a first animation attempt in comparison to a stiffer ball.

Animation 2 – Tennis Ball
Through this second animation, I have learned that taking reference from real life should be something I do consistently, lest I have trouble like I did here. The momentum of the ball works at first, but could be refined later on. I could’ve also changed the path of the ball to accentuate the faster and bouncy pace of the smaller ball.
