Due to my absences in the first few classes, I wasnt very caught up with what my group was working on, however my teammates were more than helpful when it came to providing me with information about all of the research and work they had done so far. I started by watching ‘Sticking Seafarer’ on YouTube while mainly focusing my attention to the sound, as I had been assigned to analyse the sound design in this short film.
In my personal experience, I have never researched or analysed sound design for any media before so I was unsure of where to start, but the tools on Blackboard were helpful as well as communicating with my group. I wrote a few short paragraphs on the sound design which I sent to my group, as they were also sharing their research to get any feedback where necessary. I had a bit of trouble accessing the Powerpoint presentation my group member Hannah had created, so I made my slides separately which proved to be an issue as it wouldnt let me access our group slideshow to add my slides into. I had to ask my group member Joseph to type some of my research out onto slides for me as I didnt have access to do it myself.
I have submitted the slides I made myself however, and I am fairly happy with how they turned out. I didnt want to cram lots of paragraphs into the slides so I tried to break down my research into bullet points as best as I could, as well as including some screenshots of certain scenes in the short film that corresponded to my research. Overall, I am happy with how our group presentation turned out and I will use these research and analysing skills in future projects, as well as what I have learnt about sound design through doing this assignment.
