Summary:

Initially I was quite nervous, but today was very fun. We learned the basics of Blender and were given an in-class task:

  • IN-CLASS TASK: Create a table and chairs.

(In honour of the sequel being released, I made a Betelgeus-themed room with chairs at odd angles adorning strange asymmetrical walls and a green-and-black striped cake at the centre.)

Homework:

“For this first task, I would like you to build a snowman using primitive shapes. The shapes should all be correctly parented (as shown in the video) so that it can be animated and I would like to see a short animation mainly to demonstrate that this is set up correctly. Extra points for colouring the snowman, creating a very simple environment and / or doing a little lighting with the tools shown in the videos for this class.”

INDEPENDENT RESEARCH: In preparation for this project, I used the tutorial below to help me learn the basics of resizing and rotating objects in Blender:

MY SNOWMAN: (Model + Animation)

FINAL MODEL:

I am very happy with how my final model and animation turned out. I have never EVER done 3D modelling before and had NO expectations for what the experience or the process would be like. But I’m really starting to like it! Rendering the image and video was also SO SATISFYING!
